The last device we reviewed a printer from this Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), it was an entry level offering for Small to Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) – the Fuji Xerox DocuCentre SC2020. This time, we want to focus on a printer that the OEM is targeting at the Small Office / Home Office (SOHO) market segment – the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw.
The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw is a monochrome single function laser printer but it is different from its competitors simply because the OEM has decided to cram in as many features as it can. This makes the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw one of the better options if you plan to use it in your home office or in a small workgroup.
Fuji Xerox is actually known for offering products rich in features so it isn’t surprising that this model boasts of so many features. Therefore, if you’re looking for lots of features but don’t want an over the top device, then you’ll do well to consider the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw. Here’s our review for the sake of your convenience.
Strengths of Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw
Let’s get the basics out of the way i.e. print speed and output quality. The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw is formally rated to print at the maximum speed of 30 pages per minute (ppm). This is a good rating for print speed and will stand you in good stead especially if you compare it to other printers in the same segment.
With respect to whether the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw can deliver high output quality at these speeds, we don’t expect you to have many problems. The maximum output resolution of the P265dw is 2400 x 600 dots per inch (dpi). In practice, the output quality isn’t all that bad either. You’ll get good text quality, fairly good graphics quality, and expected mediocrity with images since it’s a monochrome laser printer.
The feature set that the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw boasts of is highlighted by the fact that it offers wireless connectivity. This wireless connectivity means that mobile printing becomes an option. Thus, the P265dw supports Mopria, Print Utility, Google Cloud Print, and Air Print. Apart from Wireless connectivity, this model will also allow you to connect via USB 2.0 and the Ethernet port.
Another feature that the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw has but many of its competitors don’t is automatic duplexing. This is a good feature that will actually help you save a considerable amount of money on paper costs.
Weaknesses of Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw
Costs could be a problem for some users of the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw especially if they believe in using cartridges manufactured by the OEM. If you use genuine cartridges in this printer, you’ll end up paying about 4.43 cents for every page you print. Choosing to go with generic cartridges has its benefits. If you use generic cartridges instead of genuine cartridges, you won’t have to pay more than 3.72 cents for every page you print. This difference may not seem significant to you but it can prove to be considerable in the long run.
Another flaw of the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw is that it doesn’t offer many add-on options. Add-ons are useful especially when it comes to paper capacity because their presence makes the device more versatile. Unfortunately, you can’t really add additional trays in the P265dw. At the same time, though, the provided capacity should be enough for the majority of SOHO users.
The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw has an inbuilt paper capacity of 250 sheets with a maximum monthly duty cycle of 10,000 sheets. The last big problem with the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw and this can prove to be a major issue for many potential buyers is its warranty period. This device only comes with a warranty period of 12 months. This entitles the user towards a quick exchange from the OEM if the device fails to perform sufficiently. This is a far cry from the kind of warranty that other OEMs offer for their devices. There are some that even offer three years’ protection.
The warranty period wouldn’t be a big problem if the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw was a highly reliable device. Unfortunately, reviews from the public reveal that there may be some issues with this printer. For instance, some buyers report Wi-Fi drop-offs at regular intervals. This is why this flaw is worth being considered very seriously and very diligently.
Key Features of Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw
Fuji Xerox has gone out of its way to make the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw attractive to buyers. One of the things they’ve focused on is cost effectiveness. The initial cost is well within the reach of most buyers and also highly competitive. With respect to operational costs, the OEM has tried to help users save money. We’ve already mentioned the automatic duplexing earlier but there are actually more features aimed at saving you money.
First and foremost, there is the toner save mode which will save you money by doing what it advertises and pushing the cartridge replacement dates. This feature will obviously result in a compromise in print quality. Then, there is the N-up feature which makes it possible for the user to print multiple pages on a single sheet of paper. Speaking of additional features, the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw also boasts of a poster feature, a header and footer feature, watermarks feature, and manual booklet printing feature.
The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw is a fairly compact device, even if it is a little squat. The device measures about 186mm high, 360mm deep and 356mm wide. This depth may prove to be an issue since it increases the device’s footprint on your desk. Notably, this printer is incredibly light. It weighs no more than 5.9 Kg which means that some of you burly buyers may even be able to move it around one-handed.
The device is built around a 266 MHz processor and comes with an inbuilt memory of 32MB. Finally, the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P265dw will take about 8.5 seconds to spit out the first print for you.
