The last two devices we’ve reviewed from this Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) have been good devices exemplified by the famed Kyocera reliability and build quality. However, the device we’re reviewing today – the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN – not only has the qualities of those devices but actually, exceeds them in various ways. The devices reviewed earlier i.e. the Kyocera FS-1061DN and the Kyocera ECOSYS FS-C8520MFP, both were meant for Small to Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs). The Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is no different.
The M2530DN is a multifunction printer, which means that it can print, copy, scan, and fax. It is a fairly accomplished device that offers lots of benefits and features to its owners. It offers good paper handling, speed, scalability, and reliability all combined into a single package. Its flaws are minor too. Here is our review of the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN, if you want to delve deeper into it.
Strengths of Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN
Compared to the Kyocera FS-1061DN and the Kyocera ECOSYS FS-C8520MFP, the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is a much faster device. The FS-1061DN is formally rated at 25 pages per minute (ppm) and the FS-C8520MFP is rated at 20 ppm, but the formal print speed of the M2530DN is higher than both of them at 30 ppm. Even within its class and market segment, the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN’s print speed is on the higher side.
The print speed of the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is typified by the time it takes to deliver the first print to you. Whether you’re copying or printing, the M2530DN will take about 7 seconds to deliver the first page to you. Apart from its speed, one of the best qualities of the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is its cost effectiveness.
This machine easily has one of the lowest running costs in the industry. The operating cost of the M2530DN is significantly lower than the aforementioned printers.
In fact, this device is so cost effective that there is barely any difference between its operating costs with genuine cartridges and generic cartridges. With OEM cartridges, this device will give you every page for only 2.88 cents while using generic cartridges will take it down to 2.82 cents per page. Even though the difference may not seem much to you, it can quickly add up in the long run with high volume printing.
So, it might be a good idea to keep generic cartridges in mind when you buy this device. At the end of the day, they’ll only save you tonnes of money so it shouldn’t be that much of a concern. You’ll have another avenue to save money too in the form of this device’s automatic duplexing facility. By using automatic duplexing, you’ll print on both sides of the page and reduce your paper costs by half. Those savings will add up soon, especially if you plan on printing in high volumes.
This device provides for high volume printing through scalable paper handling. The standard variant of the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN has a paper tray of 300 sheets but this can be upped to 800 sheets through the two optional 250-sheet paper trays. With respect to scanning, the M2530DN comes with a document processor that can 50 sheets’ worth of double sided documents.
Weaknesses of Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN
The Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN doesn’t have many flaws. Its biggest flaw is the amount of money it will require you to dish out to get it. While the M2530DN is better when compared to its competitors, it also happens to be more expensive than most of them. In that regard, this device proves the saying, “you get what you pay”. You’ll find this device to be priced around the $850 mark but you should know that it will be worth it.
Another flaw of the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is the complete absence of wireless connectivity options. You can only connect this device through USB 2.0 and Ethernet ports, which is a foresight in our opinion because most modern day printing devices come with wireless or Wi-Fi Direct functionalities. This may mean that you’ll have to work around any mobile connectivity needs that you may have. The output print quality can also be pegged under weaknesses to a certain extent purely because this is a laser printer.
Laser devices tend to offer less vibrancy and colour clarity than inkjet devices and the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is no different. However, when compared to its competitors, the M2530DN doesn’t fall behind at all.
The overall output quality of this device, which includes text, graphics, and image together, is slightly better than the par in the market segment it is meant for. If you’re wondering about specifications, the maximum print resolution this device is rated for is 1200 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi)
Key Features of Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN
The Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is a fairly compact device that measures 494mm in width, 430mm in depth, and 448mm in height. Even though the M2530DN is compact, it is still hefty enough for you to need two people to move it around. The machine weighs about 18 Kg. With respect to its inbuilt memory, you will find the device equipped with 512MB worth. If you need more memory, though, you’ll have the option of getting another 512MB or even a 1GB.
Furthermore, the OEM has provided a slot for an optional SD card. In terms of optional add-ons, you can also opt for a Card Authentication Kit and USB Card reader. Another feature that puts the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN ahead of its competitors is its display screen. The device has a 5-line LCD display screen which is bigger than most of its competitors.
The standard warranty that the OEM offers with the Kyocera ECOSYS M2530DN is for 24 months and it includes onsite maintenance and repair. However, there is also the option of extending this warranty to three or even four years, if you feel the need for greater security and cost savings.
