This is the third multifunction printer (MFP) reviewed by us that falls in the same class or segment i.e. office workhorse. However, just because all these printers (Samsung CLX6260FW, Brother MFC-L8600CDW, and the OKI MC562DNW) fall into the same segment doesn’t mean that their performances are identical. It just means that most of their features are similar.
OKI MC562DNW is a good option for most businesses with its good printing speeds, decent print output, and a commendable set of features designed explicitly for the office environment. There are a few flaws or limitations to consider as well such as poor photo print quality.
OKI MC562DNW follows through on the benchmarks set by other OKI printer models. It delivers vibrant prints with a more detail than most other printers in the same class. It is worth noting that this vibrancy and detailing works well in the case of graphics and text but fails when it comes to photo prints. Here’s our OKI MC562DNW review to give you more information on this multifunction printer.
Strengths of OKI MC562DNW
The biggest strength of OKI MC562DNW is that it offers just the right combination of features for businesses looking at high print volumes on a daily basis. This printer is, indeed, built to be an office workhorse, which shows in the way it has been priced. This aforementioned perfect combination includes print speed, paper handling, and of course the output quality.
Needless to say, this device, like all MFPs can fax, scan, copy, and print. This means that OKI MC562DNW can function on a standalone basis to perform all those functions. It is even possible to send a direct email with this device as well as print from and scan to a USB flash drive. Furthermore, the standard variant of this device comes with an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) that can handle 50 pages at a time. You’ll also have the ability to use the ADF for automatic duplexing but you’ll lose print speed because of it.
The reason for this is that this printer does automatic duplexing by first printing one side and then doing the other side. It is also worth mentioning that automatic duplexing is the default mode of this printer device so that your business can save up on paper.
The paper capacity of this MFP is also quite decent with a paper drawer that can hold 250 sheets and a multipurpose tray capable of holding 100 sheets available in the standard configuration. You’ll have the option of expanding the paper capacity of this printer by choosing the optional 530 sheet optional tray. This will take the printer’s total paper capacity to 880 sheets
Weaknesses of OKI MC562DNW
There are two weaknesses that may hold you back from getting the OKI MC562DNW printer for your business. However, this printer shares both these weaknesses with most other printers available in the market in its class.
The first of these flaws is a poor photo print quality. This is fairly typical of a workhorse category laser printer designed for the office setup. These types of printers across the board, regardless of their Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), almost always deliver below par photo quality.
Even so, what this means is that if your business wants a device for printing marketing materials or image centric reports, then the OKI MC562DNW may not be the best option available in the market.
The photo quality of this printer may not be great but it doesn’t perform as badly when it comes to the quality of text and image printing. When it comes to text and graphics printing, this laser printer performs within the spectrum of acceptable standards. Effectively, unless you want to print text and graphics at desktop publishing standards, you shouldn’t have any problem with this device.
The second downside of the OKI MC562DNW is its total cost of ownership. If you compare the total cost of ownership of this device with others in the same segment, you’ll find this one to be much more expensive. Primarily, this is because of the cost of its consumables.
OKI MC562DNW shares this trait with Samsung CLX6260FW. Therefore, like we mentioned in the post on Samsung CLX6260FW review, this is a problem only for people who aren’t customers of Inkjet Wholesale. Since discounts at IJW fall in the fantastical range of 50 percent or more, the total cost of ownership of devices such as OKI MC562DNW drop significantly.
There’s a minor issue with this MFP with respect to the connectivity options it comes with. While you can connect the OKI MC562DNW to your Wi-Fi and use mobile printing if you have Apple devices, you don’t have the option of Wi-Fi direct with this device. Moreover, your options will still be limited if you own Android or Windows based mobile devices because OKI advises the use of third party apps such as ePrint and Cortado.
Key Features of OKI MC562DNW
OKI MC562DNW, as we stated above, is a good, balanced printer that has all the qualities needed to perform in a typical office. One of these qualities is the print speed.
This device’s print speed is quite decent. It is rated to print at 30 pages per minute (ppm) with monochrome prints and 26 ppm with colour prints. The print speed of the OKI MC562DNW remains solid even in real world settings.
The scanning resolution of the OKI MC562DNW is also on par with the industry standard at 1,200 dots per inch (dpi). The printer isn’t really designed to share a desk as it measures 17.5 inches x 16.8 inches x 20 inches. Putting it in place will also require at least two men since it weighs 28.5 kilograms.
Setting up the printer to operate on your network shouldn’t be a problem since OKI provides an exhaustive guide spanning no less than 129 pages. The LED display and keypad may be attractive to many businesses as they tend to always save time. However, at the same time, OKI MC562DNW’s interface structure totally counters its benefits by simply being overly complicated and complex.
Even so, all in all, this is a printer that can bring a lot to the table for any small to medium scale business. If you’ve gone through all the pros and cons of this printer mentioned above and feel that you can benefit from the former and ignore the latter, then you can buy the OKI MC562DNW here.
